The Portal is central to your team's workflow -- it's where users log in, browse and search for content, and take action on files. Customizing the Portal homepage enables Portal users to search and browse for files with a single click the moment they land on your site.
Library Staff can customize the Portal homepage experience with one of the following options:
- Search bar on Portal Homepage
- Default Portal landing page to the Search page
- Default Portal landing page to the Galleries page
Customizing your Portal Homepage with a Search bar and defaulting users to the Search page include additional customization options covered below. For more Portal customization tips, see our guides on The Portal Website.
Search bar on Portal Homepage
This option overlays a Search bar on your Portal Cover image, enabling Portal users to initiate a search directly from the homepage in as few clicks as possible. Customizations for this option include using your brand's logo above the Search bar, or using a simple text prompt.
To enable this option:
- Navigate to Portal Settings > Branding
- Under Homepage, select Have a Custom Landing Page for your Portal as the Homepage
- Upload a Portal Cover image if you haven't already
- Below your Portal Cover image, enable the toggle to Display a Search bar over your Custom Landing page Image
- Select your display option for the Search bar. Options include:
- Use the same logo as the Navigation bar
- Use a new logo file
- Use text instead of logo file
- Click View Portal to see the changes
Default Portal landing page to the Galleries page
Users will land on the Galleries page after navigating to your Portal. Publicly visible content is quickly accessible in the center pane, along with a Search bar, file Explorer and optional Share options.
After logging in, Invited Users will see accessible content in the file Explorer and can take actions on files throughout the Portal.
To enable this option:
- Navigate to Portal Settings > Branding
- Under Homepage, select Use the Galleries section of your portal as the Homepage
- Click View Portal to see the changes
If using this option, we recommend customizing the Portal for your Invited Users by uploading an Invited User Galleries Collection Cover image.
Default Portal landing page to the Search page
When users navigate to your Portal, they'll land directly on the Search page. Library Staff can customize this experience for users by displaying helpful text, showing all available Search results for a Portal user, or specifying a search term to use to help Invited Users navigate quickly through content they're able to view.
To enable this option:
- Navigate to Portal Settings > Branding
- Under Homepage, select Use the Search section of your Portal as the Homepage
- Select the radio button next to the option you want shown on your Search page. Options include:
- Don't show any results immediately but show helpful text
- Show all files as Search results
- Show the results for a specific term
- Click View Portal to see the changes
If using this option, please note that showing results for a specific term is a universal setting for all Portal users, including Invited Users.
NOTE: Changes made on the Branding page are saved automatically. To view your customized Portal landing page in real-time, click View Portal.
