Library Staff can search for content in the Library using file metadata, advanced search operators and other file attributes. In Lumen, AI visual search is also available at the top of the center pane.
Searching the Library
In Lumen, the Search bar has been relocated to the top of the Library center pane. Enter a search term, keyword or filename to locate matching assets.
Keep in mind that files are searchable based on the metadata added to them either prior to upload or in the Library after upload. PhotoShelter indexes:
- Filename
- Description/Caption
- Title
- Keywords
- City, State and Country
The following advanced search operators are also supported:
When viewing Search results, you can also adjust the view and sort options using the gear icon in the top right corner. Search results can be viewed and sorted with the same options available in the Library:
Filters & Attributes
Library Search can be refined using basic filters like file type and image orientation:
You can also search for file name, file ID, gallery location or Contributor name, and use the Date filters to refine your search to locate assets taken and/or uploaded during a specific time frame:
Other searchable attributes include searching by pricing profile type, model or property release or rating. You can also refine results by specifying IPTC metadata embedded on files, including keywords:
Location fields like City, State/Province and Country are also searchable, as is Custom metadata:
Clear the filters in a particular search by clicking Clear all at the top of the left pane:
AI Visual Search
PhotoShelter's AI-driven Visual Search allows you and your team to power searches based on the content of your images rather than the associated metadata (or lack thereof). It's our easiest-to-use, fastest and smartest AI update to-date, saving your organization time and money otherwise spent on manually tagging images with keywords or other metadata.
You can enable AI Visual Search using the toggle on the Search bar.
- Enter a Search term or phrase i.e. home run celebration or students in classroom. AI Visual Search uses artificial intelligence to show results that are similar to what you ask for.
Keep in mind that AI Visual Search does not rely on metadata to return results. This means that you can search for broad terms or phrases rather than specific keywords or filenames and AIVS will return images visually similar to the concept of your search term or phrase. Some examples of this include:
- players celebrating on field
- keeper diving for save
- catching a ball mid-air
- staff welcoming guests at check-in
- families enjoying a hike outdoors
- detail shots of appetizers
- campus at sunset
There's no limit to the length of your search terms of phrases, so the more specific you are, the more specific your results will be. However, note that AIVS is driven by conceptual similarity between your search terms and the content of the image, so searches for a specific "when" or "where" may not always return expected results.
Disclaimer: AI Visual Search uses AI to show results that are visually similar to what you ask for. Those results are not based on metadata. Though safeguards are in place, it can occasionally produce misleading or biased results.
Smart Galleries
A Smart gallery is a gallery that automatically populates with files based on a set of search criteria. They save you time by automatically organization your files using metadata. For example, if you want to create a gallery that always contains the latest photos of a specific person, subject or thing, perform a Library search for your criteria, then save the results as a Smart Gallery.
To create a Smart Gallery:
- In the Library, search for your criteria using filters & attributes to narrow down your results
- Confirm that the results meet your needs and set the Sort order for the gallery
- Click Save as smart gallery at the bottom of the left pane
- Name the gallery and select its location, then click Create
- The resultant Smart Gallery will display in the Library with the smart tag alongside it, making it easy to differentiate from regular galleries:
