To access performance data, leverage Socialie's magic tracking, make informed content and reporting decisions, and more, customers must link or track social media accounts for their publishers. Connecting accounts allows Socialie to detect published content—whether through Socialie or natively on social platforms—and surface the data needed to understand what’s working.

Linked accounts VS tracked accounts in Socialie:
Socialie offers two ways to monitor publishing activity and performance for social media profiles: Linked Accounts and Tracked Profiles. While both options enable magic tracking and visibility into posts published outside of Socialie, they differ in how they’re set up and the depth of data available.
Platform Requirements and Limitations
Social media platforms place restrictions on which account types can be connected and what data is available. The following limitations apply when linking or tracking accounts in Socialie:
-
Facebook Pages
Facebook provides API access for Pages only. There is no API support for posting to or retrieving data from personal Facebook profiles. -
Instagram
Only Creator and Business Instagram account types are supported. Instagram does not provide API access for Personal account types.
If an account does not meet these platform requirements, Socialie will not be able to link the account or retrieve full performance data. More on this below!
What Are Linked Accounts?
Linked Accounts are social media accounts that a publisher directly connects to Socialie.
How Linked Accounts Are Set Up
A publisher can link their social media accounts:
- During the publisher onboarding flow, or
- At any time in the Publisher App under Settings
The publisher authenticates their social accounts directly with Socialie, granting permission to access detailed performance data.
What Data Linked Accounts Provide
Linked Accounts offer the most complete and accurate data available in Socialie, including:
- Post publishing detection (even when posted natively outside Socialie)
- Reach metrics
- Engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares, etc.)
- Impressions or video views (platform dependent)
Because the publisher authorizes access directly, Socialie can pull richer analytics from each platform.
✅ Best for: Publishers who want full visibility into performance and the most robust reporting.
What Are Tracked Profiles?
Tracked Profiles allow Socialie users to monitor social media activity without requiring the publisher to link their account.
How Tracked Profiles Are Set Up
Tracked Profiles are created or managed from the Suggestion App:
- A suggester creates a new publisher profile or opens an existing one
- The suggester clicks the Track buttons for each platform
- The social media handle is searched and selected for tracking
No authentication from the publisher is required.
What Data Tracked Profiles Provide
Tracked Profiles still enable Socialie’s magic tracking, meaning:
- Socialie detects when posts are published
- Posts are visible in Socialie even if published natively
However, tracked profiles provide a limited data scope, typically including:
- Basic engagement metrics (such as likes and comments)
- No reach data
- No impressions or view metrics
Data availability depends on what each platform allows without direct account authorization.
⚠️ Important: Tracked Profiles do not provide the same depth of analytics as Linked Accounts.
✅ Best for: Monitoring activity when a publisher cannot or has not linked their accounts.

Filtering Publishers by Linked or Tracked Accounts
Socialie makes it easy to identify which publishers have linked or tracked social accounts on a per-platform basis using filters in the Publishers view.
How to Filter Publishers
- Navigate to the Publishers tab
- Click Filters
- Look under the Social Media heading
- Select the platform you want to filter by
You can filter publishers by the following statuses:
- Linked – The social account is actively linked and authenticated
- Tracked – The social account is tracked without direct authentication
- Not Linked – No linked account exists for that platform
- Not Tracked – No tracked profile exists for that platform
- Not Linked or Not Tracked – No connection of any kind exists
- Invalid – The account was previously linked or tracked, but the token is no longer valid
These filters help teams understand publisher coverage, identify gaps, and prioritize follow-ups to ensure accounts are properly connected for reporting.
Understanding Invalid Tokens
An invalid token means that a previously linked or tracked social account is no longer actively authenticated with Socialie.
Where Invalid Tokens Are Displayed
- On the Publishers page, invalid accounts can be surfaced using the Invalid filter
- On an individual Publisher Profile, Socialie displays a red notification next to any social profile that has gone invalid
This makes it easy to quickly identify accounts that may need to be reconnected.
Why Tokens Become Invalid
Invalid tokens are a normal part of working with social media platforms and can occur due to:
- Platform API updates
- Security or permission changes
- Password resets
- Expired authentication sessions
- Platform-side policy changes
When a token becomes invalid, the account simply needs to be re-linked or re-tracked to restore functionality and data collection.
Which Option Should You Use?
- Use Linked Accounts whenever possible to unlock the most complete performance insights and reporting.
- Use Tracked Profiles when you need visibility into posting activity but cannot connect the account directly.
Both options ensure Socialie can detect and display posts published natively, but linking accounts provides the strongest analytics experience and supports more confident content decisions.
Supported Social Account Types by Platform

Knowing which account types are supported helps avoid connection errors and missing data.
