With Lumen, admins or editors can set the default sort order of galleries, collections and search results. The "default sort" determines the default order of items in the library and the portal.
Set default sort orders for your library
The Sort Order chosen will determine the default sort orders for all galleries or collections created in your Library. This setting also applies to new galleries created via FTP or contributor uploads.
To set the default sort order for files in Galleries:
- Click Settings > Display > Sorting
- Change the Default Library File Sorting to your desired preference
New galleries will use this setting as their default sort order.
To set the default sort order for collections:
- Click Settings > Display > Sorting
- Change the default Default Library Collection Sorting to your desired preference
New collections will use this setting as their default sort order.
To set the default sort order of your library (the root level):
- Click Settings > Display > Sorting
- Change Default Library Sorting to your desired preference
To set the default sort order of search results:
- Click Settings > Display > Sorting
- Change Default Library Search Sorting to your desired preference
Note: If you usually want to see the newest files that match your search, we recommend changing the default sort order for search results to Date Created, New to Old.
Set the default sort order for a specific collection or gallery
The default sort order for specific, individual containers can be changed at any time.
To change the default sort order of a specific collection or gallery:
- Browse to the collection or gallery in your library
- Open the Sort menu at the top of the center panel
- Choose your desired sort order
- Click Make default
This will change the default sort order of this specific collection or gallery for everyone in your library and portal.
You can also reverse the order of your images, galleries or collections using the reverse sort arrows next to the Sort option.
You can also choose to display Collections or Galleries first, depending on your preference.
Custom Sort
Library Staff can custom sort Collections and/or Galleries. Custom sort is a great option if you're looking to control the sequence of Collections, Galleries or files that your end-users see on the Portal.
To custom sort a Collection or Gallery:
- Select a container (Collection or Gallery) in the Library tree
- Click the Sort option at the top of the right pane, then select Custom > Edit.
- Select a file by clicking it, then drag it into your preferred order. Save to update the custom sort.
- Lumen Portal Note: The custom sort order of public containers will be reflected in the Lumen Portal if the portal user clicks “Custom” as their sort view option.
Custom Sorting Library contents:
If you have fewer than 500 items at the root level of your Galleries/Collections Library section, you are able to custom sort your entire Library order of galleries and collections.
- To set a custom sort for your Library, Click Galleries/Collections in the left pane. This selects the root of the Library.
- In the top of the Center Pane, click the name of the current sort order (i.e. "Name A-Z") and click the button "Edit" next to the "Custom" option.
- Select a gallery or collection by clicking it, then drag it into your preferred order. Save to update the custom sort.
-
To now view the Custom Sort you set, click the name of the current sort order (i.e. "Name A-Z") and click "Custom" as the option. This step can also be done before step 2 to match the view order with the custom sort you set.
Note: The custom sort order, when set, will be the same for all Library users because it is an organization-level setting.
