Metadata templates let you save a set of metadata values and apply them to multiple files at once. This saves time when working with large volumes of content that share common metadata — like images from the same event, photographer, or distribution workflow.
Note: Creating and editing metadata templates requires Library Admin, Editor, or Tagger permissions.

Apply a template to images
- Browse to the gallery containing the images you want to update
- Select the images
- In the actions menu, click Edit Metadata
- In the info panel, select the desired template from the template dropdown
- Confirm the metadata is correct and make any desired edits
- Click Save at the bottom of the info panel
⚠️ Review before saving. Applying a template may overwrite existing metadata values in fields the template populates. Review each file's metadata carefully before saving.
Edit an existing template
From the metadata templates management page
- Click on Settings in the navigation bar
- Click on the Metadata tab
- Click on Metadata templates
- Click on the template you want to edit
- Adjust the metadata field values and field behaviors as needed
- Click Save changes
From the library
- Select any file in the library
- In the actions menu, click Edit Metadata
- Select the template you want to edit from the template dropdown
- Update the metadata as desired
- Click Update Template
Create a template from a reference file
If you have a XMP, TXT, or JPG file containing boilerplate metadata, you can use it as the basis for a new template.
From the metadata templates management page
- Click on Settings in the navigation bar
- Click on the Metadata tab
- Click on Metadata templates
- Click Import
- Select the XMP, TXT, or JPG file on your computer
- Give the template a name (it can be edited later)
- If desired, make additional edits to the metadata
- If desired, change the behavior of each field (each field can be set to append, replace or delete)
- Open the more actions menu to set all fields append all existing, replace all all existing, or delete all existing.
- Click Save changes
From the library
- Browse to the gallery containing your reference image
- Select the image you want to use as the basis for your template
- (Optional) Copy the image filename — you can use it to name the template in Step 7
- In the actions menu, click Edit Metadata
- In the info panel, confirm the metadata is correct and make any desired edits
- Click Save metadata as template
- Give the template a name
- Click Save
Create a template from scratch
From the metadata templates management page
- Click on Settings in the navigation bar
- Click on the Metadata tab
- Click on Metadata templates
- Click Create template
- Give the template a name (it can be edited later)
- Fill out the metadata as desired
- If desired, change the behavior of each field (each field can be set to append, replace or delete)
- Open the more actions menu to set all fields append all existing, replace all all existing, or delete all existing.
- Click Save changes
From the library
- Select any file in the library
- In the actions menu, click Edit Metadata
- Fill out the metadata fields as desired
- Click Save metadata as template
- Give the template a name
- Click Save
Edit, duplicate or delete a template
From the metadata templates management page
- Click on Settings in the navigation bar
- Click on the Metadata tab
- Click on Metadata templates
- Open the more actions menu to the right of each template name
- Click Edit, Duplicate or Delete based on your needs
⚠️ Review before deleting. Deleting a template cannot be undone. Deleting a template does not affect the files where the metadata template was applied.
From the library
- Select any file in the library
- In the actions menu, click Edit Metadata
- Select the template you want to modify from the template dropdown
- Click Edit Template
- Rename or delete the template as needed
