Data Migration & Security for On-Premise Customers
Data Migration
- Your existing Third Light password will work for your new PhotoShelter account with the following exceptions:
- If there was already a PhotoShelter account associated with your email address, the PhotoShelter password for that account will remain the same.
- If you were using external authentication for your Third Light account (e.g. Active Directory, SAML, AD FS, etc.), we wouldn't bring your password across. You will need to reset your password here.
- Your entire library of assets, including images, videos, and other media files, will be transferred to PhotoShelter for Brands.
- The IPTC metadata associated with your files will be transferred where there is one-to-one mapping for a field between Third Light and PhotoShelter. Any unmapped text metadata values that are less than 100 characters long will be added as keywords.
- Any Third Light account users will be migrated to PhotoShelter for Brands. Please take a look at our Glossary for an overview of PhotoShelter naming conventions and learn more about team permissions.
Security
- We maintain all customer data on our powerful, proprietary owned-and-operated private cloud, and we employ state-of-the-art security measures to protect your assets. We don’t rely on third-party cloud solutions.
- PhotoShelter operates primary data centers in the United States (New York and California) and the United Kingdom.
- Since 2017, PhotoShelter has been fully GDPR compliant. Defense Priorities and Allocations are in place for all contracts and sub-processors.

Access Arrangements for Data Migration
To ensure a smooth transition, we must gain permission and arrange necessary access to your on-premise server before migrating your content to PhotoShelter for Brands. Please have your internal contact reach out to us at brandssupport@photoshelter.com
Our technical team will be able to coordinate with your nominated contact to schedule this access. This will allow us to securely transfer your data and ensure all your assets are migrated to PhotoShelter for Brands.
Navigating the Transition
Your Upgrade Roadmap:

Account Creation & Data Migration:
Your new PhotoShelter account will be created, and your existing assets and users will be migrated.

Cease New Uploads to Third Light:
To prevent any potential data discrepancies, you’ll want to refrain from uploading new content to Third Light after your PhotoShelter contract has been signed.

Official Third Light Sunset:
From then on, you will no longer have access to your Third Light account. You will exclusively access your assets through PhotoShelter for Brands.

What if I don't want to move to PhotoShelter for Brands?
As the acquirers of Third Light, we’re committed to providing you with a seamless transition to a DAM experience that sets you up for success. That’s why we’re providing dedicated and extensive resources and support throughout this process. However, if you choose not to upgrade, you have the option to cancel your Third Light account at renewal.
Are all of the features available in Third Light also available in PhotoShelter for Brands?
PhotoShelter for Brands offers many of the features available in Third Light, including new, advanced tools and capabilities built for your success.
