Glossary Context
Library / backend Library = Also referred to as the "backend," this is where your media lives; it is only viewable by Admin, Editors and Taggers (see Library Staff definition below)
Portal = The public-facing website where the general public and Invited Users find what media they are looking for, either by browsing (Galleries) or by search (Search)
Invited Galleries = Hidden ('those with permission') Collections and Galleries visible only to logged-in Invited Users on the Portal
Library Staff = The page within your PhotoShelter for Brands account where user role assignment occurs for Admins, Editors, Taggers and Contributors. It generally refers to the small group of users with backend access to see everything in the Library, who organize and set permissions to share Library files externally via the Portal. Contributors have upload-only access to your
PhotoShelter for Brands account and cannot see the backend of the Library despite being included on the Library Staff page.
- PhotoShelter Library Staff Admin and Editor roles are comparable to the Third Light Admin and Space managers who’d manage the content and permissions for the site/space.
Contributors = People with permission to upload (only) into your PhotoShelter for Brands Library
- Contributors are comparable to Third Light Space members who only have the upload permission enabled. With PhotoShelter, Contributors can only upload files via an upload portal directly to the Library.
Invited Users = People who can view and potentially download visual media from your Portal
- Third Light users who don’t require Library Staff seats are migrated to PhotoShelter as Invited Users.
Files = Images, videos, PDFs, and a whole host of other file types. See this article for more details.
Collection = A group of Galleries and/or other Collections. You cannot upload files into a Collection (see Gallery definition below)
- While Third Light collections let you group files together, PhotoShelter Collections work a bit differently as files can only be contained in Galleries. Because of this feature difference, any Third Light collections you may have will not be migrated to PhotoShelter.
- Each Space in Third Light will be added as a Collection in PhotoShelter retaining folder structure, and content from each space will be in sub Galleries. Sub Spaces in Third Light will be added as Sub Collections in PhotoShelter. Spaces with no files will not be migrated.
Gallery = A group of files (you can only upload into Galleries in PhotoShelter)
- A Third Light Folder with files will be migrated to a Gallery in PhotoShelter. Folders containing sub Folders will have a Collection added with the same name. The Third Light file ID will also be added to the keywords metadata field in PhotoShelter.
Visibility & Access Settings = "Visibility and download access" permission settings which are applied to Collections and Galleries in the Library and are controlled by Admin + Editor users
- All Library Staff can see the content in the Library. The Visibility & Access settings allow you to share content on the Portal with Invited Users or with Public visibility for everyone to see.
Quick Action buttons
Single-file actions available in the Right Pane of the Library. If the icon is green, this setting is activated for this file.
- The dollar sign allows you to apply a pricing profile to an image. A green dollar sign means the image has one or more pricing profiles assigned.
- The person represents whether the image in question has a model release. If the icon is green, the image is model-released.
- The building represents whether the image in question has a property release. If the icon is green, the image is property-released.
Transaction fee = A percentage (8%) of anything you sell through a PhotoShelter shopping cart.
