Using the PhotoShelter Desktop Uploader app
1. Open the PhotoShelter Desktop Uploader on your desktop and sign in using the email address and password you created after accepting your invite to contribute to a PhotoShelter for Brands account. Read more about accepting your Contributor invitation.
If your organization has enabled SSO, you will not be able to login through SSO with this application. You will need to set a password to go with your email address as a PhotoShelter login in order to use this app.
2. Note the two sides of the PhotoShelter Uploader. The left side represents your computer's file structure, while the right side displays your default upload destination into the organization's PhotoShelter account. If you are a Contributor to more than one PhotoShelter for Brands Library or PhotoShelter for Photographers account, use the Switch button to select the account you would like to upload to.
3. Using the drop-down menu at the top of the left side, locate the image files you'd like to upload. If you can navigate to the folder on your computer, you can navigate to it in this application. External hard drives plugged-in to your computer are usually found in the "Volumes" folder on your Mac.
Tip: Able to locate a specific folder on your computer but unable to find it in the Desktop Uploader left pane? You can drag and drop a folder (even one stored on a server - just make sure your computer is connected to it first) into the left pane of the Desktop Uploader to "jump" to that location on your computer or the network.
3. Once the image files appear in the left window pane of the Uploader app, select what you want uploaded to the PhotoShelter account. Note that you can either upload a selection of image files or whole folder of image files. NOTE: If you upload the whole folder, and there are other folders of images nested within that folder, this upload method will merge everything together into one Gallery in the PhotoShelter account (which might not be ideal). To preserve file folder structure when uploading, you should upload using FTP.
Above: Individual images are selected in the left pane for upload into a Gallery in the right pane.
4. In the right window pane, there should be a "Folder" Gallery with your name on it. Select it and the Transfer button will turn green. Click the green Transfer button on the menu bar to activate the upload.
5. A box will pop up, prompting you to name your upload. This is what will help the Library Staff of the PhotoShelter for Brands account you are uploading into distinguish your upload from others they may receive. Click "OK" to commence the upload.
6. The upload will begin immediately but can be stopped or paused by clicking on the corresponding buttons in the navigation bar.
Note: When the upload is complete, you'll see a pop-up window indicating that the uploads have been completed. Only the Administrator and Editor(s) and Taggers on the PhotoShelter for Brands account will have access to see your upload in the PhotoShelter Library.
Preferences
Click Prefs in the top toolbar to change your upload settings.
Ignore Already Uploaded Files
If "Ignore already uploaded files" is ON (checked), the uploader will check the gallery you're uploading to for any existing files with identical filenames (including file extension) as those in the PhotoShelter for Brands account you are uploading into. It will skip uploading any duplicates to that gallery. If you are unsure how the PhotoShelter account you are submitting content to is managed, you probably shouldn't check this box.
